The time machine really does exist, come to Vulci!

You are in one of the former most important Etruscan cities, on the banks of the Fiora River, now a beautiful historic park just a few kilometers away from Orbetello Family Camping Village. The Cryptoporticus welcomes you with its subterranean passageways where ancient fountains still flow, while the mosaics, baths and other interesting finds transport you back to the days of the Roman Empire.

A magnificent day’s hiking on the Capo d’Uomo ring

Walk along the paths and dirt tracks of Monte Argentario towards the hill known as Poggio Fondoni, where evergreen oak groves form a tunnel. Ascend towards the Capo d’Uomo tower and watch the panorama change: the scrub stands out against the sheer drop to the turquoise-colored sea, while in the distance you can make out the islands of Giannutri, Giglio and Montecristo. The ruins of the tower dominate the landscape affording 360° panoramic views over terraced land, ancient farmhouses and the Tuscan Archipelago.

Sunsets you will never forget

Sunsets are all magnificent, but there is something truly special about those seen from Monte Argentario. You can drive as far as the Monumental Cross on Monte Argentario, in the late afternoon, and enjoy the breath-taking panoramas over Orbetello Lagoon and much of the Maremma area. Then go over to the other side: the panorama extending over the Tuscan Archipelago, with its imposing islands of Giglio, Giannutri, Elba and Montecristo, creates an idyllic vision. Now treat yourself to an aperitif at sunset on Monte Argentario.

Visit Giglio Island

Treat yourself to this mini cruise and go discover the islands of Giannutri and Giglio. Departure is by reserved bus from the Orbetello Family Camping Village at 8:45 am approx. At Porto Santo Stefano you board the motorboat “Revenge”. The first stop is on Giannutri Island, where a seafood lunch awaits you, then Giglio Island. Return to the campsite is scheduled for around 7:00 pm.

The art and beauty of Florence

Everyone knows Florence, the cradle of culture and the Renaissance. It hosts some of the world’s most famous tourist attractions, buildings, monuments and works of art. But as well as the magnificent churches and famous museums, paintings and sculptures, there are a number of hidden treasures in Florence that you probably are not aware of: for example the upside down balcony in Borgo Ognissanti, or Dante and Beatrice’s Church where the poet met his muse for the first time, the remains of a Roman theater located under Palazzo Vecchio, the petrified head, better known as La Berta, which protrudes from the wall of a bell tower in Via de’ Cerretani, the magnificent Boboli Gardens inside Palazzo Pitti… just to name a few. Discover myths, ancient legends, and anecdotes and stories from the past, then Florence, just over two hours away by car from the Orbetello Family Camping Village.

Pisa and its Leaning Tower

Just a two-hour drive from Orbetello Family Camping Village is the famous city of Pisa.
Piazza del Duomo, more popularly known as Piazza dei Miracoli, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 and forms the artistic and tourist center of the city: the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the evocative Campo Santo (cemetery)… and perhaps you didn’t know that the Leaning Tower is actually the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. But have you ever experienced that strange sensation as you walk up the inclined steps leading up to the top, where there are 7 bells cast to the musical scale? The monument built in 1173 is inclined due to the subsoil sinking, but its “fault” has for centuries made it famous throughout the world. Visits to the Tower must be booked in advance.

Siena and Piazza del Campo

Siena is the town famous for staging the Palio horse race, held twice a year in July and August in the magnificent Piazza del Campo (also known simply as the Campo), which is in fact the town’s main square. A unique square, with an extremely unusual shell shape, its beauty and architectural harmony make it a highly particular place, and not for nothing it is considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Strolling through the various splendid “Contrade” is an experience you will certainly remember. And just think, Siena is less than an hour and a half away from Orbetello Family Camping Village!

Wine, food and nature in Chianti

Everyone is familiar with Chianti thanks to its wine, which has literally traveled the world. Chianti however refers to a geographical area in the center of Tuscany that is quite unique. The hilly landscapes creates a harmony of colors and shapes that inspire moments of inner peace. An excellent glass of Chianti Classico accompanied by a slice of Pecorino di Pienza or, why not, a fantastic plate of Pici Cacio e Pepe is a culinary experience you simply have to try! Greve in Chianti can be reached in less than two hours from Orbetello Family Camping Village, along the roads that twist and turn following the natural rises and falls in the hills, which will amaze you at every bend with their colors, scents and typical landscapes.
