Vulci the Etruscan metropolis, the archaeological park
What was one of the main Etruscan cities located on the Fiora river is now a beautiful historical park. The Criptoportico welcomes us with its underground paths where the ancient springs still gush out, the Roman mosaics, the nymphaeums, the baths and other interesting finds make us live the Roman empire. The monumental François Tomb with its large dromos. Around the cows and horses in the wild, the colorful flight of bee-eaters, the silence of the Maremma. Stories, the environment, nature allow us to live an experience outside of time.
Excursion to the Spanish Fortresses of Porto Ercole
When in 1550 the Spanish founded the State of the Presidi, Porto Ercole was its capital. In defense of the small state some fortresses were built on Monte Argentario. Even today, the impregnated forts emerge from the limestone with defensive bastions, walkways, unexpected riches of secret gardens, the Mediterranean scrub, dominating the sea. The ascent to the forts is on comfortable pedestrian paths. The view enjoyed from above covers most of the Tuscan archipelago. The feeling of freedom is constant.
Anello Capo d'Uomo
We will walk on narrow roads and dirt roads of Monte Argentario, towards Poggio Fondoni where apparently young oaks form a gallery. Go up towards the Man Head and the view changes: the garrigue stands out against the turquoise sea. In the background the islands of Giannutri, Giglio and Montecristo. The ruins of the tower dominate a landscape that spans 360 ° between terraces, ancient farmhouses and the Tuscan archipelago. Descend along paths surrounded by the odorous Mediterranean maquis where the Argentario gives its best.
Visit to the WWF Lake Burano Oasis
The first protected area for migratory birds and for the protection of the environment, the Burano Oasis includes a stretch of coast with a sandy dune, scrub and a brackish lake behind a tower dominated; with its huts for observation and equipped paths it offers the visitor a complete immersion in the world of the Maremma. The area includes a stretch of coast among the best preserved in Italy; Mediterranean maquis and very rare birds in the marvelous landscape of an Oasis that was once a hunting reserve.
Visit to the reserve and, having reached the exclusive beach, a final bath in the Oasis sea.
Sunset from Monte Argentario
Arriving by car near the monumental cross on Monte Argentario, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Orbetello Lagoon and much of the Maremma area. The slope changes and the panorama sweeps over the Tuscan archipelago, with the islands of Giglio, Giannutri, Elba and Montecristo. Agreste aperitif at sunset on the mountain.
