Sport and outdoor fun in the Tuscan Maremma and in Orbetello
Diving and Diving in the Argentario
The seabed of the Argentario, with the islands of Giglio and Giannutri are the most popular destinations for diving, underwater hiking, diving and snorkeling. Among islands, coves, beaches accessible only from the sea, the characteristic backdrops offer unique shows and Mediterranean scenery. The depths of the Argentario are very particular, between walls, caves and shoals in a sea rich in life, populated by colonies of Posidonia, orgonias, sponges, amberjacks, barracudas, lecce, morays, lobsters and groupers.
The Isola del Giglio also offers one of the most famous and appreciated seabeds in Italy, made of holes that open between the rocks from which you can admire crabs, morays and lobsters, majestic groupers and shoals of anchovies under the surface. In the same way, Giannutri Island, part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, offers ideal depths for diving enthusiasts, during which it is possible to spot dolphins, whales and turtles.
Sport and amateur fishing in the Orbetello Lagoon
The Lagoon of Orbetello, with its countless varieties of fish species - sea bass, sea bream, mullet, eels, sardines, mullet - is a real paradise for lovers of sport fishing, allowed from April to October with a permit also issued to non-residents.
The management of activities related to sport fishing and "fishing tourism" was entrusted by the municipality of Orbetello to the historic cooperative "La Peschereccia", established in 1943 by the fishermen themselves, the custodians of the traditional techniques of lagoon fishing. Fishing in Orbetello is a real tradition, preserved both by local authorities and by cooperatives that are born to give continuity to this art in harmony with the ecosystem.
If you are a fan of sport fishing, you can practice it in a pristine and unique place or "live the job firsthand", accompanying the sailors who have handed down the tradition for generations.
Horseback riding in the Tuscan Maremma
If you really love being outdoors, there is nothing better than a horseback ride to enjoy the beauty of the landscapes of the Tuscan Maremma and discover the most suggestive areas of the Lagoon of Orbetello and Argentario.
In the surroundings of the Orbetello Camping Village you will find many equestrian centers that organize courses and outings suitable for all levels, for adults and children, beginners or experts.
And not only. Even in the Parco della Maremma, about 10 km from the Orbetello Camping Village, it is possible to follow many horse-riding itineraries, from the simplest to the most demanding, to learn in a simple and fun way about the Park and its most suggestive places. Once you have booked the excursion that suits you, you can also request the rental of the horse from the Park.
Cycle tourism in Orbetello and Maremma
Cycling is the ideal way to get in tune with the nature of the Tuscan Maremma. The network of cycle paths that explore the Maremma, with a great variety of routes, reflect the different faces of the territory, including hills, tree-lined avenues, Mediterranean scrub and plains that open towards the sea.
The main route, the Grand Tour of the Maremma, is a real journey of about 366 km to discover all the faces of the territory: countryside, lonely streets, medieval villages and beaches. A ring route, challenging but very suggestive, which crosses the splendid cities of the Sorano tuff and extends to the Argentario coast and the Maremma Park.
Another route that develops in the surroundings of the Orbetello Camping Village is the Maremma section of the Ciclopista del Sole, a long cycle path that crosses Italy, from Sicily to the Brenner. An itinerary of about 100 km that connects, along the coast, Follonica and Marina di Grosseto, winds through the hinterland up to Magliano and from here, in its variants, continues to Capalbio or returns to the coast, up to Orbetello.
